Highschool Story
During my last few weeks at Lanot Design, a client asked if the studio was capable of creating characters for their story driven mobile game similar to Pixelberry's Highschool Story.
The instructions from the art director was to design one male and one female character that were students with the art style being similar to Pixelberry's Highschool Story. The studio handed me the responsibility of creating the designs for the characters as well as the final illustrations that would be presented to the client as a demo.
In this project, I will discuss my moodboard, references, designs, and any changes that occured throughout the duration of the project.
Project:
Highschool Story
Duration:
Four Weeks
Role:
Digital Illustrator | 2D Rendering | Character Design
Deliverables:
Completed Character Illustrations
Background
Moodboard
Early Sketches
Revisions
Before moving on to line art and final rendering, I presented my initial designs to my art director and project manager. They suggested that the outfits of both characters be fitted appropriately for the cultural setting they were in which was a school in the Philippines based off the revisions the client made.
The outfits themselves were far too westernized but the poses were satisfactory. While keeping the pose and the art style, I began to sketch out student uniforms that were the standards for students to wear in school. I gave the girl a long skirt and a collared t-shirt while the boy was given pants, dress shoes, and a collared t-shirt.
This was a rough sketch of the revisions made for their outfit designs.
